I recently received the following question via the 'Contact Drake' form: Is there a reason why your site has started featuring mainly professional models? The whole appeal - for me - was that you participated in the vids, but now its just like run of the mill big studio porn.
I'm sure others have had similar thoughts, and it is time for an update, so here is my reply to him: When I took over the site the beginning of 2010, a number of members were saying, 'Enough John videos', 'Enough ass play videos', so the members were surveyed and they collectively said to cut back on those videos. Since I was no longer producing music videos that really left one direction: hard core fuck videos. The site is small and doesn’t have enough subscribers to pay for hard core videos produced in the U.S., so my friend started shooting Czech guys. He had quite a few guys who were new to the industry, and it worked. Unfortunately, some things happened in his personal life and the quality of his videos took a nosedive. So I started booking with a Hungarian production company that uses established Euro porn stars. During this past month I reached an agreement with the Hungarian studio that if I were to continue using them, they had to provide 6-8 newcomers per month. Last week I received a commitment from them. Then there were all of the problems with the glory hole videos (see 'Glory Hole Trials and Tribulations' below). In two weeks Trent Diesel and I will be shooting our fuck video together. I have also booked a scene with me and a U.S. newbie who has never done porn. Since I’m shooting that, I figured I may as well take advantage of the hotel and shoot another newbie who contacted me tonight. If both of those guys show up, during July I will be releasing three videos with me manhandling guys. The types of videos released on the site has changed drastically during the last six months. Somehow I will find a balance. During the first part of 2010 my goal was to produce as many fuck videos as possible, and cost-wise that was only possible by off-shoring the production. Now it’s time to start bringing it back home. As I’ve said a number of times before, I never wanted to be in front of the camera; it’s just not me. By the same token I am a realist, and I understand that I have built a following of people who enjoy watching me manhandle the guys, so I’ve given into that fact and I will start producing videos like that again.
