I had a childhood steeped in deep religious roots and twelve years of parochial schooling. Says a lot, huh?
When I hit puberty my friends and I would go to the local grocery store, stand in front of the magazine rack, and look at porn that we disguised inside issues of Sports Illustrated. During my teens my cousin gave me a Penthouse which I hid in a manila envelope under a drawer beneath my dresser. At one point I was using it 10-15 times a day to masturbate - so much so that often I had to jerk off with my fingertips because my dick had scabs on it from jacking dry. Sure I had heard the stories of blindness, hairy palms and eternal damnation for jacking off, and in sort of a divine enlightenment my mother had the wisdom to place some hand lotion and a pamphlet about masturbation on my bed. Was I embarrassed? Yes! Did we talk about it? Hell no. Did I read it? It may sound silly, but that pamphlet saved me. In short it said that it's okay to masturbate, that everyone does it, and nothing bad will happen to those who do it, enjoy! Sometime later my father discovered the Penthouse magazine, claiming he was looking for a pair of socks he had lost (yeah, because all of those elusive socks that go missing from the dryer always end up beneath the bottom drawer of my dresser in a manila envelope!) Upset, ashamed and embarrassed of me (so they said), my parents sat me down. The gist of their lecture: pornography is awful; the people in those magazines are used by the producers and treated inhumanely; that none of the models want to be doing porn, that they were tricked into it; that porn producers are the most despicable low-life creatures on earth. So I hid my porn in the rafters of the garage attic and masturbated up there in the stifling heat of summer and sub-zero temps of winter. As an adult I have viewed my share of porn. I went through stages where I would use it, become bored with it, and go without it, sometimes for years at a time. One thing that always stuck with me is that porn producers are scummy filthy rotten people. Granted, some are! So are many politicians, truck drivers, socialites, Wall Street businesspersons, business owners, students, and every other walk of life. It has taken many years for me to come to terms with myself, i.e., accept and love myself for who I am and not give a shit about what anyone else thinks. And that acceptance happened quite a while before I entered the adult industry. There is nothing jaded about having the "I don't care what others think" attitude. It's a simple truth that we won't get along with everyone. We can't. Personalities differ too much. So if someone doesn't like me, no problem. Bye-bye. That person over there probably will. Besides, I have my family and core of lifelong friends. Others just seem to come and go during the course of time. What does that have to do with producing porn? Everything! When I accepted myself for exactly who I am, I was able to treat everyone else with kindness and respect. None of us can ever completely know another human being or understand exactly why they are the way they are - it's the culmination of too many infinite experiences over the course of a lifetime. But we can accept a person as a whole. It doesn't mean that we have to like everyone. Truth be told, I would rather slide down a fifty foot razor blade into a vat of rubbing alcohol than spend even a minute with certain individuals, but I still treat them with respect. Never in a million years did I expect that one day I would own the title "pornographer". Why? Because I'm not seedy. I'm far from being the scum of the earth. And yet here I am. Pornographer! Now that I'm in the adult industry I realize most of the people involved in porn are normal people just like everyone else. They have families and friends; they have goals and aspirations. They are living life, day by day, seeking happiness and love. Isn't that all any of us really wants and needs - love and happiness? The rest is just fodder that fills our days. The performers, directors and producers in the adult industry are no different than anyone else, with the exception that they are probably more sexually liberated than most. In other words, many of them do not harbor the guilt, shame and embarrassment about sex that seems to be instilled in other people. As I explore sex on-camera it opens my mind to another realm that is very freeing and gratifying. Friends who are privy to my new venture have said, "So now you're gay?" My answer, "Do I have to be gay? Can't I just enjoy the person I'm with, no matter what their gender, and leave it at that? Do I have to choose a label?" The other thing they usually say is "You're a pornographer?" That question is usually accompanied by a sneer or looks of disapproval and disappointment. I understand why. I am just a nice, normal eveyday kind of guy. My personality doesn't fit within their preconceived notion of "pornographer". The irony is that I know they use porn. It's a double standard. They will enjoy porn, and often idolize the women/men performing in it, and yet the producers - the pornographers - are despicable low-life creatures to be sneered at. Like most people, over the years I've wrestled with guilt and shame, and in the end it was a little tri-fold pamphlet about masturbation that helped me overcome it: sex/masturbation is okay, everyone does it, nothing bad will happen to you if you do it. Enjoy! My name is Drake and I'm a pornographer! I provide quality entertainment and fantasy for those who view it. I treat my models and actors with the utmost kindness and respect. I am enjoying my new career of choice, and I have no regrets. If anyone has a poor opinion of me because I'm a pornographer, they are entitled to it. Bye-bye! Because in the end I have to live with myself and my choices, and I'm perfectly okay with who and what I am! I wish everyone happiness and love...and a little bit of adult entertainment in between!
I'm unsure why but I was shocked and a bit dismayed when I discovered some porn stars are also escorts, and even more disturbed when I found out some of the guys I had worked with are escorts.
Let me begin by saying that I'm coming to terms with the fact that I've led a fairly sheltered life, at least in realm of the adult industry and all its varieties of sex. By no means am I prudish but I must admit that working in adult has been quite a learning experience. I had shot Pat Bateman solo for The Cock Tease, and gave him an erotic massage for Rock Hard Jocks. While I was fingering his ass he said it was the first time anything had been up there, and I believed him. Why wouldn't I? He had no reason to lie. In the coming weeks I discovered he had bottomed many times on film. No biggie, people lie. Then I saw a blog that posted his escort profile. I was disheartened, thinking, "How can he do that?" In my mind escorting and prostitution were synonymous, and based on what I had seen on TV and in the movies prostitution seemed dirty and degrading. I slept on it and in the morning I had a revelation: prostitutes have sex for money; porn stars have sex for money; in essence, they're same thing. The only difference being that one is caught on tape and distributed. Throughout 2009, while shooting the guys, I’ve had many conversations about the sex industry and their roles in it. Eventually something came to light that I hadn't considered. Porn stars always have sex for money (well, 99.9% of the time) - that's what they do, get paid to have sex. Escorts, on the other hand, don't always have sex. Many times it is about companionship or fantasy. "Pete" started in the industry as a dancer and that opened the door to escorting. "I have one guy who has me dress up in different sports gear," said Pete. "He sits in a chair and he jacks off while I undress. That's it! He's never touches me." "Steve", another escort/porn star, chimed in, "I have a guy who wants to cuddle. We lay naked in bed for a couple of hours talking and caressing each other, but neither of us cums. I'm not saying it's always like that, some guys want to fuck me, but it's not always about sex." "Besides," said Pete, "I make a ton of money escorting. Porn doesn't pay as well. I do porn because it's fun." "And it's great advertising for the escorting," added Steve. "Now I can pick and choose the clients I want to work with whereas in the beginning, before I did porn, I answered whoever called." I had to ask, "Doesn't escorting make you feel dirty?" They both laughed. "Dirty?" asked Pete. "Do you feel dirty, Drake, after you give one of the guys a massage or he blows you or you fuck him?" "No," I answered. "There are two things that make a person feel dirty - guilt and shame, or if a client is physically unbathed," continued Pete. "One can be cured with a shower. If it's guilt or shame you're going to feel dirty no matter who you're with." I said, "But I get to pick and choose who I have sex with on-camera and they're attractive." "I pick and choose," said Steve. "I've turned down a number of clients because they gave me the creeps. They answered the door and I made and excuse and left. Besides, I usually have a better time with unattractive clients. The good looking ones can be bitchy pompous assholes. But most of the unattractive guys are just lonely. They want to feel loved. They want to feel companionship and affection. They are more real and interesting to be with." "Some of the guys want to live out their fantasies and then return to their real lives," Pete added. "There are some fucked up fantasies out there, and if they want me to do something I don't feel comfortable with I say no." Steve summed it up, "I'm more of a whore getting paid for sex while doing porn than I am escorting." Pete finished with, "I love sex. I have no hang ups about having sex, and I feel no shame or guilt. It feels good. What's not to like? And if someone wants to pay me to spend time with me, whether or not it involves sex, hell yeah!"
I've heard many stories similar to Steve and Pete's. In the end it boils down to a simple fact: if something is between two consenting adults, and no one gets hurt, who am I to judge? I'm a pornographer, for crying out loud, and that in and of itself carries a ton of stigma!
01/30/2010 James99: I like this. An insider's perspective. Thanks for sharing Drake! 01/30/2010 Billy: Drake, Thanks for the story. You do good work, perform a service, and in no way should consider yourself "dirty." You're not forcing anyone to do something against his will. 01/31/2010 Bob: You are the most unique pornographer on the internet or anywhere for that matter. I never know what to expect from you which keeps it interesting. Cheers!
Meet Tony Douglas, another brand spanking new straight newcomer who had his first anal experience on-camera.
I've worked with some guys who had claimed to have virgin asses, and yet they knew how to clean out and prepare themselves to be anally assaulted. Tony on the other hand had clue how to clean out. I had to talk him through it step by step, and he asked a million questions during the half hour process. He was a nervous wreck about giving up his ass. I truly believe he is one of the few anal virgins that I have worked with thus far. Tony's video is scheduled for release on 2/20/10.
01/28/2010 TwinkEater: Where are you finding these gorgeous twinks lately? And how the hell do you get so lucky that you are the first guy to get inside these straight twinks' asses? I want to be you. The only difference is that my face would be buried in these twinks' cracks with my tongue driven up their holes.
Since December 19, 2010 I've provided all new releases as MP4s for HD quality and FLVs as non-HD high quality videos. A number of members have commented about the size of the videos and the file formats (MP4 and FLV).
I know most popular gay websites provide MOV and WMV formats. That has pretty much become the standard in the gay community and what subscribers to gay websites have come to expect. 5-10 years ago MOV and WMV (and Real Player) were the most effective ways of distributing videos. Technologies change. The standard for HD videos is H.264 which creates MP4 and 3GP files. I understand why the larger sites are not making the switch to H.264 - it would be costly and time-consuming to re-encode all of their existing videos, and the file sizes are larger because there is some much more density in each HD frame. Many top straight porn sites have converted or are in the process of converting and releasing their videos as MP4s and 3GPs. Gay producers have yet to adopt the new H.264 standard. When I moved to HD a month ago I was in a position to adopt the new H.264 standard. Just because other gay producers are unable or unwilling to adopt the new standard doesn't mean that I should use an antiquated technology just because they are. I will continue to release videos as MP4s. Eventually, the other companies will catch up. Last night I tweaked the encoding process and I was able to shave about 20% off the file sizes without losing quality. As time permits I will go back and re-encode the HD videos that have already been released.
I apologize if you feel the download files sizes are too large or that it's an inconvenience to watch them in the free Adobe Media Player, but I will not adopt old technologies just because everyone else is stuck there. That makes no sense at all.
Last night I shot an action scene between two guys who are gaining more popularity - Cameron Adams and Jayden Grey. Instead of directing them, I tried something different. I said, 'You guys have an hour, just do what comes naturally' and unleashed them on each other.
We hit a few snags which will prevent it from being one continuous scene without any edits, but overall it worked so well that when I pair other guys in the future who have an instant connection, I will most likely do the same. There is just something about two guys who are totally into each other that can't be faked. Cameron and Jayden's video will be released 2/10/10.
This morning I went live with the new mobile iPhone site. You can get there one of two ways: http://m.drakerock.com or http://www.drakerock.mobi
Your DrakeRock.com subscription provides unlimited access to the members' area of the mobile site as well as the members' desktop version of DrakeRock.com. Admittedly, as a member, if you do not have an iPhone there is not much benefit to having access to the mobile site. But even if you do not have an iPhone, you're welcome to browse the mobile site using your desktop browser. Videos do not load as quickly on mobile devices as they do with high-speed desktop connections so I broke the videos into numerous 5-10 minute clips and opened the mobile site with 37 clips from the 11 high-definition videos. For those of you who have a DrakeRock.com subscription and a slow-speed connection, I have also made the clips available in the members' area on each of the video pages where they are available. From this point forward all new video releases will also be made available as clips on the mobile site as well as here on DrakeRock.com. As time permits, I will be going backward and making available other previously released hard core videos as downloadable clips. So now you can have the guys' cocks in your hand anytime, anywhere. Enjoy!
Regards, Drake
